This week’s topic is Biomimicry—basically using nature and its innovations to guide our inventions – submitted by Past President Mat Peabody. Here’s Mat’s set up for you:
“The guru of Biomimicry is Janine Benyus, whom I met in 1997 and who has become a good friend of mine. She wrote the book on Biomimicry. I met her at her book launch. I have incorporated a lot of biomimicry into the whole entrepreneurial process and work closely with a number of schools to make sure that it is a part of the curriculum. I have a series of lectures that I started in 1998 or so titled: “Engineers make great Entrepreneurs.” I work closely with Stanford’s Clean Tech program and MIT’s Innovation and Stealth programs, not to mention South Dakota School of Mines, Colorado School of Mines, Michigan State and Grand Valley State University (yes, I stay busy). We have “graduated’ thousands of scientists to-date, and the interest never seems to wane.”
